What's your Skin Telling You?

My Skin is at its worst! I have no clue why.  I have been using all the right products and hAving facials regularly.  I was telling Nadia, on of the other skin experts at Makeup Mandy that I thought it must be the juice cleanse that I am on detoxing my skin.  I am doing the Pressed Juicery 3 day cleanse off and on to get ready for my wedding, lose weight and be healthier.

Nadia sent me this awesome diagram and it really makes sense that the areas I'm congested and detoxing are the areas my skin is going crazy! I just wanted to share this incase any other juicers are going through a similar issue.

The areas you are having inflammation can be cause by any internal Heath issues, mot just from detoxing but if there are other issues that need to be addressed. I am on day two of my 3 day cleanse  and for those of you who know of the Pressed Juicery it is the second cleanse with the extra citrus drinks.  My skin didn't react at all to the first cleanse.

Let me know if anyone has experienced similar results!

The Makeup Wardrobe - Skin Care Essentals

I always find it strange when clients ask me what I use for makeup products. I mean I understand that they want an endorsement but I have to silently laugh. If you opened my cabinets at home you would find probably 5 different options of every hair, skin and color product out there, and this is after I clean out the out of use products.  Am I a product junkie? Maybe I am, but Im going to argue why these ARE the necessities.

Our bodies, hair, skin, and clothes (hopefully) change daily.  Shouldn't the way we care for them change too? I need options. The beauty of beauty products is that we can change how we look and feel and sometimes that means using a few more products than others.

So here is my must have beauty wardrobe List:

Skin care- think of this as your under garments. They are the foundation of every look you create. Your makeup only looks as good as the skin underneath. Good skin care is preventative and healthy and a must. I like Cosmeceutical brands like Jan Marini ISClinical, and Murad Professional. Cosmeceuticals penetrate deeper than cosmetics and by-law can go past the epidermal layer for long term results. Always be weary when a product is sold over the counter at a department store and claims to give you radical results. Quite simply it, by law, can not penetrate to the lower level of cells. Cosmeceuticas, while not as strong as prescriptions, have to be sold by licensed professionals, who typically know what they are talking about.

Cleanser: most of us need 3

- 1 bioglycolic from Jan Marini, its exfoliating I use this most nights

- 1 gentle gel cleanser - soothing, not irritating, removes makeup and cleanse skin

- 1 Lash extension safe wash for eyes and face, The LAshX Gel Cleanse is safe and gentle I use this in the shower. If you don't wear lashes you still want a cleanser that is safe for eye makeup removal in your arsenal.

Toners-  I skip this- all of my cleansers are high quality and PH-Balanced. No toners needed but if you tend to get very oily try some which hazel.

Treatments -

-Vitamin C serum - to combat environmental pollution, brighten the skin. I use every morning under the moisturizer

- Glycolic treatment- for break out prevention, I use as needed

-Retinol (1%) .. I use a medical strength because my skin can tolerate it, but virgin skin should start with a 1/2 percent every other night. Retinol is a wonder cream, it helps exfoliate, clear up skin and minimize sunspots and fine lines. It will also make you a little more sun sensitive and you dont want to use in the days before waxing.

-Many people also need something for sunspots, I like Enlighten by Jan Marini, it slows down melanin over production without the side effects of a hydroquinone.

Moisture

Face and Eye moisturizers

I like to have something lighter and something heavier depending on the weather and my skin.

-Daily I use a moisturizer with Growth factor in it to thicken skin.

-I like a lotion that is oil free with a tint for when I need a quick fix

I always buy creams without SPF.  SPF "waters down" your good for you ingredients and they water down the sun protection. Plus, this way, all of my creams can then be "night" creams if I desire.

Eye Cream;

I like to have both a heavier and lighter eye cream. One with SPF is good too.

I have one with arnica to combat dark circles and puffies.

SPF- if you are fair or sensitive, physical block of 45 to completely block any sun with a tint is important. I like Jan Marini's new block. This is important after treatments, when you are sensitive to the sun, or exposed to more sun than in and out of the car.

SpF - A regular sun block with a powder finish is great and an spf 15 is enough for most people for everyday use. Again, I love the Jan Marini blocks for this too. Yes ever darker skin types should be wearing spf.
