The New Black = My New Obsession

I recently discovered the latest beauty must-have to hit the market. We've been through OPI and Katy Perry's Crackle phase, and that whole "press on manicure" with the nail stickers has come and gone, but now, 'The New Black' is all the rave when it comes to nails, and I have a feeling its here to stay. The brand combines the hottest trends of season with the latest innovations in color, to ultimately create sets of polish that all true fashionistas crave.

As I looked more into the brand, I couldnt help but admire the briliance behind the product. From their 'Ombre' sets, which include 5 polish shades ranging from lightest to darkest, to the 3-piece 'I Heart You' set for Valentine's day, I finally came across the one I just HAD to have: the 'Daily News Typography' set. The 4-piece set comes with a nude base color, a roll of custom typed newspaper, transfer solution, and finally, a clear top coat to lock in the look. In just 20 minutes, I had a perfectly polished, newpaper printed mani! And a week later, still holding up, I'm officially OBSESSED!

CEW 2012 Beauty Awards -

Whew this weekend was a whirl wind, I landed in LA from Puerto Rico, worked for 7 hours and hopped a Red-Eye to NYC for the 2012 CEW Beauty Awards. For those not in the biz, this is the "Oscars(R) of Beauty Awards".  This was my first year attending and also my first year in the competition. LAshX ProLine that lanched this past June is one of 24 finalist for the Prestige Eye Catagory. Appearently, there wasn't a spare ticket to the event to be had in town.

The whole thing was so exciting. LAshXProLine, Our Italian pigmented eye liner with lash treatment, was posistioned next to Laura Mercier and across from Loreal (Alphabetical yes, but still crazy that I would have a product next to these amazing brands).  I worked as a sales associate and a makeup artist for Laura Mercier out of college, It hit me how far our brand has come!

(LAshX(R) Demonstration spot)

CEW or Cosmetic Executive Women is a non-profit organization of over 4000 beauty industry executives. Voting for each catagory goes until the end of April and winners of the competition will be awarded in May.  Finalists and winners gain media exposure, bragging rights and most important the pink BEAUTY INSIDER'S Choice Awards seal.

There are 27 catagories of products including Indie (companies less then 5 years old).

(A Shot of just some of my goodies, the rest went to the Delta attendant, when I almost missed my flight, and my boyfriends Grandmother)

When voting I can see why people donate to the gift bag, items I was gifter were more memorable when voting. My liners are $140 so I wasnt able to donate 900 to the gift bags.

(Royal Apothic's Display. The are sold at Anthropology among others. This is one of my favorite brands!)

(A shot of Loreal's many entries across from my demonstartion area)

So of my favorite new products:

NurtriNail gel polish that doesnt need a uv light.

Laura Merciers Cavier shadow sticks, Although they keep moving make sure to set with powder!

a balm with hydrocortizone that smells like vanilla, I mean how usefull is that?!

Royal Apothic Fragrances

NeoSporean cream for ezcema

The Pimple Punisher by Kate Somerville

I will update the blog when we find out the winners!!

xo,

Mandy

The Best 20 iPad and iPhone Apps for Fabulous Women

This article is for beauty junkies, queens of the multi-task, and fashionistas.  I know this blog is different from our normal format but I feel we ladies are being neglected. I was searching for the best apps for my new Ipad and found all the articles focused on business men! What about us business ladies on the go: Here are my top 20 apps that you must download, most are free, enjoy:

Beautylish (FREE)

This App is all about inspiration. The artwork is stunning. Contents include, beauty stories, Style trends, Health tips, Beauty tips and tricks, celebrity picks, product reviews, and how to videos. You can become a member and make comments and review products and videos. Contributors include beauty editors from popular magazines like Ning Chao, who is not only a dear friend of mine but a beauty know-all! The only downside  is comments must be made through their website, and not from your ipad app. Hopefully they will change this soon!

WWD (FREE although a yearly subscription is $129 for the year and auto renews)

My first Magazine to sit in the "Newsstand" on my Ipad, how cute! In order to download articles you must buy your subscription.

There is also, bonus content that everyone can access on the bottom right of the app home page. I believe you must be online to access it, so not great for flying unless you download first. This magazine is THE go to trade magazine for the fashion and beauty world. Articles contain trend news in celebrity, fashion, reatail and beauty worlds.  Great inspiration and applicable news if your in the businesses!

Remember the Milk (Free and paid for subscriptions)

OMG for the woman on the go this is a M-U-S-T! Let me tell you what this little gem does. Basically its your virtual to do list on steroids. You can tag your items in categories and share categories with co-workers and staff. For example, if Makeup Mandy Studio needs me to go buy them more hairs pray they can add it to my to-do list under: To Buy: Makeup Mandy. I can then share that with someone else or go to the store. The list will send text and or email reminders and you can set priorities and due dates. RTM syncs with Ipad, Iphone, Android, Google and outlook and your calendar to name a few.

The basic version of this will do EVERYTHING except sync automatically, you will need to sync it by hand from your App. Upgrading to pro will only cost you $2.99 for the month or $20 for the year.

Evite (FREE)

This is the mobile version of the Evite online. As far as my experience goes you can do everything you normally do online from the app. Last minute plans are canceled, no problem, now you can throw a party in five minutes. It will provide up-to-the-minute rsvp status on your guests as well as allow you to read comments and respond. Last minute change, no problem.  Iphone, Ipad, Android Versions.

Catalista (FREE)

Ever say, I would love to volunteer more, but don't have the time, or don't know where needs your help? Catalista, makes giving back in your community a snap! It  finds your location and lists tons of fun ways to get involved in your area by date and with a touch of a button you can sign up, share or rate.  you can also search. Volunteer opportunities include beach clean ups, Marathon Volunteers, Furry Fun, meal preps, teen outreach, farmers market, etc. there are opportunities specifically for children as well like Kids in the kitchen, and Family Fun Day. You can set preferences as to the causes you care most about, your availability, and where you want to search. YAY!  This is an iPhone,  and android app that can be accessed through iPad.

AstrologyZone (FREE)

Susan Miller is amazing. Not sure whether to sign that deal or wait for the new moon? Is your new date going to be The One? Susan gives daily horoscopes as well as a super long monthly breakdown for each Sun sign. There is also a love tab that tell you your best matches! Whether you believe in astrology or not, its really fun and I cant tell you how spot on she can be, its eerie!

Epicurious (FREE- $1.99)

For the cook, or the wannabe cook this is the bible. recipes are searchable and in categoriesby season, holiday healthiness, etc. you can sync all your recipe boxes from app to app for $1.99. From the recipe save or create a shopping list right in the app. all recipes are rated by users and have great photos, perfect when you cant decide what to make. From the app you can email twitter or Facebook the recipe and read all the nutritional info.

Pricecheck by Amazon/Redlaser/ShopSavvy

Okay so I cheater here, these are three different apps but hey, they are free so might as well grab all three. There are a bunch of price check apps out there.  Red Laser, works with your AMEX points. Amazon, promises to beat any in store price by 20% and ShopSavvy will tell you all the near by locations that have that item and what the prices are.  Basically they all are similar you can scan an item in a store by taking a shot of the barcode and it will give you the item details by sku number.  This one saves me a lot of buyers remorse, don't you hate paying full price for something and then a week later you see it somewhere at 50% off! well no more!

Hootsuite (FREE-Paid for pro)

This is all your social media on one place, Few! Through Hootsuite you can send out info on LinkedIN, Twitter, Facebook pages, and profiles, and Four Square. This is great for businesses or the popular.  Its free up to 4 accounts I believe then you need to upgrade to pro. for unlimited accounts, which is reasonable. I currently have ten accounts linked! You can set time for future tweets, ad links, and photos and Hootsuite will analyze your traffic for free with reports.  You can even auto-translate.

DropBox (FREE - PAID)

DropBox is a virtual storage for you and your co-workers and or family to access images, documents and pdfs. This is so much easier than emailing big files. You simply upload content and it syncs to everyone who you share it with and all your devices at once. Never be without a presentation again! Its free up to a certain storage limit.

Evernote (FREE-PAID)

Evernote is to Documents what Dropbox is to Images. I use Evernote to store/back up any important documents. It lets you access them from anywhere as well as sync all of your devices. I have this on my iPhone too so that I can make notes for anything legal. I safe confirmation numbers and important receipts in there as well.  You never have to worry about losing your info.  It has been a life savor when I was dealing with my auto insurance because I noted every conversation when they didn't I had proof and won.  The best part, everything is searchable, even text you photograph!

CardMunch(FREE)

You can your business cards and it keeps them in a contact list. No more losing cards. You can then send them a note directly through the app to their LinkedIn or connect to them. It is your choice to then sync them to your contacts! This keeps my contact book from getting overcrowded with duds ;)

Pandora (FREE)

The Radio not the charm bracelet I hope by now EVERYONE knows Pandora. Stream live music based on your preferences. Pay for no commercial breaks its worth it because the commercials are always for weird things like Diarrhea meds or adult diapers, not so romantic.  This is great for dinner music, parties, working out, work etc. Must have internet connections so not so go for flying! My fav stations are Micheal Buble, Bel Biv Devoe (for 80s jams), Brick House (70s Funk) and Adele. We also like Rock-Fluence for dinner toons.

Kindle (FREE with Subscription or Paid Books Amazon)

Turn your Ipad into a Kindle with this app. Must download with internet connection. So again, download before your flight!

Square (FREE App you pay per transaction)

This little white box plugs into your iphone or Ipad and allows you to charge credit cards directly from location to your bank account. You pay a flat fee per transaction. Its a little more costly than in in store terminal but hassle free and easier than PayPal! There are no hidden fees either, if you don't use you don't pay anything.  They will send you a card reader for free! You can instantly email your client their receipt at time of transaction. We use this on location and at trade shows. You do need an internet connection with the ipad. I think with the iPhone it will use your data plan.

SquareSpace (FREE APP)

You need to actually have a square space account or this one is useless. But we can blog right from the app both on the pad or the phone.  Full access to all features of square space.

PowerContact ($9.99 for iphone)

This little baby is great. Color codes and symbols lets you drag and drop your contacts into groups for easier finding and mass communications. Contacts can be in several groups like Makeup Mandy, Clients, Friend.  Auto syncs with your regular contacts.

MyFitnessPal (FREE)

Awesome way to watch what you eat and what you burn. My fitness Pal lets you add to your food journal, set goals, calculate cals and nutrition and calories burned. Track workouts and waistline! You can add buddies and share your progress on timelines.  It will actually send you a little email if you haven't logged in in a while asking where you have been! The key here is you actually have to enter everything you eat but you can save customs and pretty much everything I have ever eaten is in there.

Interviewer (FREE)

Sometimes interviews are just as stressful for the interviewer as the interviewee. Its so important not to hire crazy people. This little app helps you ask  the right questions and gives tricks on how to dig deeper! Plus you can be more consistent in your interviewing to ensure a fair opportunity to each applicant. Just let you applicant know you have saved your questions on your iPad of iPhone so they don't think that you're texting. seriously, Its a great professional tool.

HBOGO (FREE if you have HBO subscription)

HBO on the Go, I'm not sure if I need to say much more. Download episodes before flights.  Hot actresses like Rebecca Kreskoff on Hung (She's our client, LOVE HER).

Please comment if you have more suggestions for our readers, I feel better knowing there is a best-of list for us ladies now!

Mandy
