FAQ'S
These are a few of my most frequently asked questions. If you don't find and answer you are looking for here please feel free to email Makeup Mandy Eyelash Bar and Makeup Studio. Someone will respond to you within 48hrs.
Q. Where is Makeup Mandy Located?
A. The private boutique is located at 8441 Melrose Avenue, West Hollywood, CA 90069 (Click for Map). We are right next to Vera Wang and across from Taste restuarant. Feel free to call or email us for more information or to book an appointment at (310) 858-1970, info@makeupmandy.com
Q. What is eyebrow design?
A. Eyebrow design is the process of manipulating the shape of the eyebrow to frame the face and open the eye. We do this by hand, using techniques that might include tweezing, waxing, or threading for complete control. The choice of technique is up to you, but after initial design, monthly maintenance is recommended.
EYELASH EXTENSIONS
Q. How long do the eyelash extensions last?
A. The eyelash extensions last on average four to eight weeks and then the client will need what is called a touch up to replace any extensions that may have fallen off. We guarantee them for at least 4 weeks if taken care of properly. We recommend using LAshX Lash Cleanse by Makeup Mandy and VolumeUp mascara since both are oil and glycol free. Factors that affect the length that the extensions last include the client's lifestyle; the client’s natural lash cycle (we lose lashes every 30 – 90 days); the client's medical conditions; and the natural length and volume of the natural lashes. Eyelash extensions are beautiful on most but not right for everybody, so a complimentary consultation is recommended.
Q. What should I do before coming in for my eyelash extension appointment?
A. It is recommended that you shower BEFORE your appointment. You must wait 24 hours before wetting your newly applied eyelash extensions to make sure they bond properly. Though you can wear makeup before getting eyelash extensions, try not to have any mascara on and make sure your eye area is clean of any makeup with oils.
Q. How do I remove makeup when wearing eyelash extensions?
A. We carry the only product on the market that is safe for eyelash extensions, LAshX Lash Cleanse. Formulated without harsh cleansers or oils, this daily use solution cleanses away dirt and makeup without damaging your lashes. This is the only product we recommend you using to remove makeup.
Q. Will my natural eyelashes fall out?
A. No! When lash extensions are applied properly there is no hair loss at all. The extensions tend to protect the lash. We are licensed and certified technicians in Makeup Mandy’s LAshX extension method. Because of technique and product quality used at Makeup Mandy, lash wearers experience an increase in length and volume of their own natural lashes. Properly applied extensions are single hairs that are bonded to each of your natural lashes with no clumping, using a medical grade surgical glue. Always ask technicians where they are certified from, if their glue is made in the US, and if you can see pictures to insure that they apply lashes one extensions per hair, if not visiting a Makeup Mandy Lash Bar.
Q. What do the lash extensions feel like?
A. While some people think the lashes feel a little funny for the first few hours, the majority of clients say they feel no difference at all. In fact, many say they forget they even have them until someone compliments them. The mink lashes are even softer to the touch and last up to two weeks longer, on average.
Q. Can I wear mascara with the eyelash extensions?
A. Most people get the lash extensions so that they just wake up looking great and don't have to put mascara on anymore. However, you can wear a specially formulated mascara, Volume Up Mascara, with the lash extensions that comes off with water and gel cleanser. Many clients do this for special occasions or if they just love that mascara look, but many just drop the mascara altogether.
Q. What should I look for when finding an eyelash extension specialist?
A. When you are seeking an eyelash extension specialist make sure to ask about the technician’s training. Get referrals from a website like www.MakeupMandy.Com or friends. Ask the technician: who certified them and where; how long have they been applying the extensions; and what products they use (the adhesive should be black and odorless). It is a good idea to ask to see some pictures of their work. Messy black lashes, clumping and flaking of the adhesive are all signs of bad work and could lead to problems.
Q. What do I do if I have had lashes put on that look clumpy?
A. First, we recommend that you do not go back to the same person that did the bad work in the first place! If your lashes look like they are all stuck together, you need to have them removed with adhesive remover by a professional, such as Makeup Mandy, as soon as possible to avoid lash loss.
MAKEUP
Q. What are your favorite makeup products?
A. I like a lot of different products and brands depending on my client's age, skin type, and preferences. When selecting makeup brands I look for high quality, high color pigments, products that are multi-purpose, products that last and photograph well and do not cause skin breakouts. Brushes are the key to a successful makeup application so I spend the most on my brushes and have developed my own line that I use and carry in the studio. It is important to select the right type of brush hair for the application. You want quality hair that is glued way down in the shaft of the brush so that the hair will not fall out on the skin, as well as the right shape and size for the job as well.
Q. What skincare should I be using before my wedding?
A. Skin care is highly specific to each individual, so I recommend coming into the studio for a consultation. The earlier the date before the wedding that you start using the products, the more results you will see. We carry both topical products, which treat the topmost layer of skin, and cosmeceutical products, which treat through several layers of the skin, with a range of products that deliver both immediate and long-term results.
Q. I have a photo-shoot coming up, is it important for me to have a makeup artist there?
A. If your makeup is done properly from the beginning, it may not be necessary to have a makeup artist on location. If the shoot is over an extended period of time and regular touch ups are essential you may want to have a professional there to ensure you are looking perfect the entire shoot. At Makeup Mandy, we offer in-studio makeup applications, as well as on location applications by appointment. .
WEDDINGS
Q. Do I need to do a trial run before my wedding day for hair and makeup?
A. Would you buy a wedding dress without trying it on? So why would you want to have your makeup done for the first time on the day of your wedding. Brides have enough stress on the day of the wedding! Knowing that your hair and makeup is going to look great is one less thing to worry about. Because of this, we highly recommend a trial run and in most cases require one. At the time of the trial run we play with colors and hair and make sure everything will be perfect the day of.

TANNING
Q. What is Airbrush Tanning and how long does it last?
A. Airbrush tanning involves a self-tanning/firming solution being applied through an airbrush by hand. Makeup Mandy has an all-natural, organic formula that contains an ingredient that makes the melanin in your skin react to produce a natural tan. This is the best process to receive a tan because it is good for the skin, does not cause skin cancer and is applied perfectly so you will have no streaking or orange effect. Airbrush tanning can be used for contouring the body and can be applied all over the entire face and body or just in areas. Because this process is done by hand (by a makeup artist) and the formula is customized to your specifications and skin tone, you have complete control over how dark you would like to be. You will leave with an instant glow, but the color takes about three hours to completely appear and will last about a week. Like a real tan the more you moisturize the longer it will last and the more you shave or exfoliate the dead skin the faster the tan will fade. We recommend you sleep overnight in our regular tanning formula. However, we do have a Rapid Tan formula in which you will be able to shower after just 3 hours.
Q. Do I need to exfoliate before getting a spray tan?
A. It is always a good idea to exfoliate and/or shave before your tanning appointment to extend the life of your tan. The more you exfoliate and/or shave after you tan, the faster it will fade away.
Q. Can I wear makeup when I get a spray tan?
A. Yes, you can wear makeup when you get your spray tan. However, products that contain oil will block the absorption of the color, so it’s recommended to come in with clean, dry skin to guarantee that we can make your tan look its best!
Q. Can you tan with eyelash extensions?
A. Yes, you can tan with eyelash extensions. Though you can self tan, It is not recommended to go into a tanning bed. The head will weaken the lash bond, plus its bad for your skin! Try Makeup Mandy’s Organic Airbrush tan applied by an artist. It lasts 7-10 days and won Best Sunless Tan for all of LA!
